The MIAMI BLACK HISTORY MUSEUM project was championed by former Miami-Dade County Commissioner Dennis C. Moss and was unanimously approved by the Mayor and the Board of County Commissioners on October 7, 2014. The current Chairman of the Board is Albert Dotson Jr. Esq., a major community leader in Miami-Dade County. Dr. John F. Fleming who has an unparalleled background in museum planning, development and operations for over 50 years was the Project Director for the initial plan. Gallagher & Associates, an internationally respected museum planning organization developed the Museum's Planning Document. Emmanuel Uche, CEO of the Architectural Design Consortium created the initial building design for the Museum.
In the future, the MIAMI BLACK HISTORY MUSEUM will feature unique and thought-provoking exhibitions throughout the year.
The MIAMI BLACK HISTORY MUSEUM will contribute to the field of black history research and conservation through innovative studies and collaborations with leading scholars and institutions.
